Dancing for spiritual freedom

                                                                                                                         1 / 2

Over the years I have developed a number of established methodologies for working with sound. Fundamentally they are connected in that my approach to sound is pretty much an artistic/ sculptural one. After all that is the discipline I am grounded in and from which I frame all my work. I don’t pretend to be a composer nor would I ever want to limit my practice by describing myself in such a manner..As an artist I am interested in exploring ‘the cracks’ between various media such as expanded theatre, sound art, sculpture, music, dance and the application of new technologies.

Since 1999 I have been collaborating with computer software engineer Mikael Fernstrom (Softday) here in Limerick. Mikael’s expertise is that he creates algorithms and neural networks that translate a variety of core data into sounds. I enjoy the randomness of assigning musical notes to numerical data, you just don’t know what a work is going to sound like until the computer has flavoured all the data streams and it produces your synthetic sound version.
